Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan seeks backing from participating cricket boards

Pakistan is rallying support from the cricket boards of teams participating in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, hoping to secure backing for its hosting rights despite India’s refusal to send its team.

Sources close to the matter revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has already started discussions with various international cricket boards, preparing for a potential voting process among ICC member boards.

It is worth noting here that Pakistan’s track record of hosting international teams, including Bangladesh, Australia, New Zealand, England, Afghanistan, and South Africa, is exceptional with each expressing positive experiences regarding security and hospitality.

The only team absent from recent tours has been India, which last visited Pakistan for the 2008 Asia Cup.

Pakistan’s government is expected to engage in diplomatic efforts, reaching out to governments of participating nations to support the stance of PCB.

A day earlier, PCB penned down a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC), asserting its stance against hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 in a hybrid model following India’s decision.

According to ARY News, the PCB wrote to the ICC, detailing the government’s firm position on the matter and rejecting the option for India to play its matches in the UAE.

Sources indicate that the PCB’s letter made clear that if the Indian team does not come to Pakistan, Pakistan will not engage in any future matches with India at alternative venues.

The PCB’s stance follows India’s recent refusal to send its team to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, citing security concerns and advocating for a hybrid model like that used in the Asia Cup.

PCB Chairman has repeatedly stated that the Champions Trophy 2025 will be hosted entirely in Pakistan.
