“Serious threat” prompts ban on meetings at Adiala Jail

The Punjab province is on high alert following a serious threat warning concerning Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, as revealed by Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari. In a statement addressing the situation, Bukhari emphasized the gravity of the threat and assured that measures are being taken to ensure the safety and security of the facility.

The minister clarified that there is currently no information regarding the transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan, from Adiala Jail to any other location. This statement comes amidst speculation regarding Khan’s status and potential relocation.

Bukhari underscored the severity of the threat, citing recent apprehensions of terrorists found in possession of maps of Adiala Jail. These developments have raised concerns about potential security breaches and necessitated heightened vigilance from law enforcement agencies.

Addressing Imran Khan’s presence in Adiala Jail during the election process, Bukhari stated that despite his incarceration, the PTI founder participated in political activities. She asserted that if there had been any intention to impede his involvement in the electoral process, action would have been taken earlier.

The Punjab Home Department has implemented a two-week ban on all prisoner meetings at Adiala Jail, including those involving Imran Khan. This decision aims to mitigate security risks and prevent potential threats posed by unauthorized interactions.

PTI leaders, including Umar Ayub, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Atif Khan, and Shahram Tarakai, were recently denied access to meet Imran Khan at Adiala Jail following the ban on prisoner meetings. This restriction underscores the seriousness of the security situation and the government’s commitment to maintaining order and safety within correctional facilities.

The Punjab government’s proactive response to the security threat reflects its dedication to ensuring the welfare and protection of its citizens. By implementing stringent measures and restrictions, authorities aim to thwart any potential terrorist activities and maintain peace and stability in the region.

As security measures remain heightened at Adiala Jail, government officials continue to monitor the situation closely and take necessary steps to address any emerging threats. The safety and security of all individuals, including prisoners and political figures, remain paramount as authorities work to uphold law and order across the province.
