Royal Caribbean has officially introduced the world to the Icon of the Seas, a monumental addition to its fleet of 28 ships. This colossal vessel, constructed in Finland, was officially handed over to the company on November 27 after a meticulous two-and-a-half-year journey from design to production.
Towering at a remarkable 1,198 feet and weighing an astounding 250,800 tons, the Icon of the Seas has rightfully earned the title of the largest cruise ship globally. Boasting an impressive 20 decks, including a replica of New York’s iconic Central Park, the ship is set to redefine luxury and entertainment on the seas. Stunning photographs of the ship highlight its grandeur, emphasizing that it is five times larger than the historic Titanic.
With the capacity to accommodate a staggering 9,950 people simultaneously, the Icon of the Seas is poised to embark on its maiden voyage in January 2024. Departing from the vibrant American city of Miami, the ship will navigate the pristine waters of the Caribbean Islands.
The vessel offers an unparalleled experience with 40 restaurants, a massive swimming pool, and a groundbreaking water park featuring six water slides—a first for cruise ships. Boasting a total of 2,805 rooms categorized into 14 different types, including a luxurious three-story townhouse with a weekly rent averaging $75,000, the ship caters to a diverse range of passengers.
Beyond its extravagant amenities, the Icon of the Seas incorporates a waterfall and promises captivating ice shows for the entertainment of its passengers. Even its cheapest ticket, priced at $1,820, grants passengers a seven-night stay in a standard room.
Royal Caribbean had previously held the title of the world’s largest ship with the introduction of Wonder of the Seas in 2022. Not resting on their laurels, the company has already commenced preparations for another remarkable vessel, Star of the Seas, slated for its maiden voyage in the summer of 2025. The release of Icon of the Seas’ sketches a few months ago had created significant buzz on social media, and the ship successfully completed sea trials in June 2023, further heightening anticipation for its upcoming maiden voyage.
