Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that the government was prepared to take further “difficult” decisions if necessary to address the country’s economic challenges.

Speaking to journalists after a meeting of the federal cabinet, the prime minister appealed to wealthy Pakistanis to support the country during what he described as a difficult economic period.
Shehbaz Sharif said economic conditions were deteriorating globally as commodity prices continued to rise.
PM Criticises Previous Government
The prime minister also blamed the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government for contributing to the country’s economic difficulties.
“The previous government reduced the price of petrol and laid a trap for the next government,” he said.
Shehbaz also accused the previous government of failing to work for the welfare of the people and breaching an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
These were the prime minister’s political assessments of the previous government’s economic policies.
Rs2,000 Assistance for Deserving Families
The prime minister said the coalition government was providing Rs2,000 in financial assistance to 700 million deserving people.
He also said the government had introduced taxes on wealthy people in the budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year.
Shehbaz Sharif assured journalists that the government would continue working to address the economic challenges despite the difficulties facing the country.
He expressed confidence that Pakistan would eventually overcome the current economic crisis and move towards greater economic stability.
