Preparations have been completed for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Iran to attend the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to official details, the prime minister is scheduled to depart for Tehran on Friday to participate in the funeral prayers.
The high-level Pakistani delegation accompanying the prime minister will include Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

During the visit, the delegation led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the funeral ceremony and offer condolences on the passing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Preparations for the funeral are underway in Tehran, where giant portraits of the late Iranian leader have been displayed at the Grand Mosalla as authorities finalize arrangements for the state ceremony.

The funeral, which was initially delayed during the Middle East conflict, will take place following a fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, regarded as a prominent religious figure by many Shia Muslims, was martyred at the age of 86 in US-Israeli airstrikes on February 28, 2026.
According to Iranian officials, the public funeral will be held on Saturday at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla, where his body will lie in state before the funeral prayers.
The bodies of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s slain relatives will also be presented during the ceremony.
Officials expect between 15 and 20 million mourners to attend the funeral, which would make it the largest state funeral in Iran’s history.

Earlier to this, Iran has reportedly introduced a special 10-day free visa for Pakistanis intending to attend the funeral and mourning ceremonies of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

According to available information, the arrangement does not provide visa-free entry. Pakistani travellers are still required to submit an application and obtain an approved Iranian visa before travelling. However, the standard visa fee will reportedly be waived for eligible applicants.
Applicants can submit their requests through Iran’s official electronic visa portal. They have been advised to select the “Entry Visa” category and clearly mention their intention to attend the funeral or related mourning ceremonies.
