Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Friday paid their respects to Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei after arriving in Tehran to attend his funeral prayers.

State television footage showed Prime Minister Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir, accompanied by a high-level Pakistani delegation, visiting the coffin of the late Iranian leader and offering their condolences.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Tehran earlier in the day, where he was received at Mehrabad Airport by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

Senior Pakistani and Iranian diplomatic officials were also present to welcome the premier, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
During the one-day visit, the prime minister is expected to convey Pakistan’s condolences to the Iranian leadership and reaffirm the country’s solidarity with the people of Iran during their time of grief.

The Pakistani delegation includes National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, and other senior officials.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir also arrived in Tehran separately to participate in the funeral ceremonies as part of Pakistan’s official representation.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was martyred on February 28 during the first day of Israeli and US strikes on Iran. His funeral began in Tehran on Friday, while his burial is scheduled for July 9 in his hometown of Mashhad, according to Iranian state media.
The Prime Minister’s Office said Shehbaz Sharif would express heartfelt condolences on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan and reaffirm Islamabad’s support for the Iranian nation.
Following the funeral ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to travel to Istanbul for a bilateral visit to Türkiye.
