PSX closes higher as benchmark index gains 398pts

Pakistan’s stock market closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark index gaining 397.83 points, or 0.22%, to settle at 180,502.44.
Trading activity remained exceptionally strong, with total market volume reaching 1.05 billion shares and traded value standing at Rs48.33 billion.
Cnergyico PK Limited led the volume chart, while negative market breadth showed that broader selling pressure persisted despite the benchmark’s gain.

Pakistan’s stock market closed higher, with the benchmark index gaining 397.83 points, or 0.22%, to settle at 180,502.44, as trading activity remained strong during the session.

The index opened the session on a firm note and moved between an intraday high of 181,158.86 and a low of 180,281.75. It had closed at 180,104.61 in the previous session.

Trading activity remained robust, with 511.22 million shares changing hands on the market’s main board, generating a traded value of approximately Rs32.71 billion.

Across the exchange, total market volume reached 1.05 billion shares, while the overall traded value stood at Rs48.33 billion. Investors executed 478,897 trades during the session.

Despite the benchmark’s gain, market breadth remained negative. Of the 563 stocks traded, 197 advanced, 276 declined, while 90 remained unchanged, indicating broader selling pressure despite the index’s positive close.

Cnergyico PK Limited (CNERGY) emerged as the most actively traded stock, with 312.52 million shares changing hands. The stock gained Rs1.33 to close at Rs15.01, after trading between an intraday high of Rs15.05 and a low of Rs13.83.

Dewan Sugar Mills Limited (DSIL) recorded the second-highest trading volume, with 124.77 million shares traded. The stock declined Rs1.36 to close at Rs12.20, after reaching an intraday high of Rs13.24.

K-Electric Limited (KEL) gained Rs0.10 to close at Rs7.46, with 30.72 million shares changing hands. WorldCall Telecom Limited (WTL) also closed higher, gaining Rs0.02 to settle at Rs1.23, with trading volume reaching 29.18 million shares.

SILK Bank Limited (SLM) closed at Rs24.30, up Rs0.03, after 28.33 million shares were traded. Beco Industries Limited (BECO) gained Rs0.02 to close at Rs5.13, with 27.31 million shares changing hands.

Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) was another notable gainer, advancing Rs1.40 to close at Rs28.50. The stock traded between Rs27.03 and Rs28.75, with approximately 23.69 million shares changing hands during the session.

Last week, Pakistan’s benchmark stock index closed lower on Thursday, with the market coming under mild selling pressure despite gains in several heavyweight and actively traded stocks.

The benchmark index settled at 180,104.61 points, down 206.60 points, or 0.11%, from the previous close of 180,311.21. During the session, the index moved between an intraday high of 181,433.85 and a low of 180,035.92.

Market breadth remained negative, with 269 stocks declining against 197 advancing, while 97 remained unchanged out of 563 traded securities.
