Cricketers must play at least one domestic event, orders Naqvi

Domestic cricket structure Pakistan

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi directed officials to begin work on new central contracts and made it mandatory for all international cricketers in the national team to participate in at least one domestic tournament.

The decision was made in a key meeting today [June 02], chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi at Gaddafi Stadium, to review upcoming series plans and domestic cricket reforms for national players.

The meeting focused on the home series against South Africa and Sri Lanka, and overseas tours to the West Indies and Bangladesh. Preparations for Pakistan Shaheens were also discussed in detail.

He said playing domestic cricket will help young players learn from seniors and grow. “A strong domestic system is the backbone of international cricket,” Naqvi emphasized.

He added that mixing experienced players with fresh talent in local competitions will ensure a strong bench for the national squad in future international tournaments.

Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla presented a briefing on the team’s international engagements and timelines. He shared an update regarding the series schedule and logistical preparations.

The meeting included national team Head Coach Mike Hesson, COO Sameer Ahmed, Team Manager Naveed Akram Cheema, High Performance Director Aaqib Javed, and captain Salman Ali Agha.

Naqvi also stressed the importance of well-coordinated planning between departments to ensure successful series and better performance by players in all formats of the game.

The PCB chief urged officials to work on grooming talent at the grassroots level and align domestic tournaments with international standards for long-term player development.

This strategic shift by PCB aims to build a strong pipeline of skilled players, capable of replacing seniors and raising the overall standard of Pakistani cricket.
