Larkana broke a 33-year, 11-month-old record with 38mm of rainfall in a single day – the highest May total since 1991, when only 24mm fell during the entire month.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the city received 15mm on May 21, 1991, but downpours on May 04, 2025 (Monday) nearly doubled that in just one spell.
In sharp contrast, Karachi remained largely dry, despite earlier forecasts of rain through Monday and Tuesday.
The city was likely to experience light showers and pleasant winds on Monday morning, but hopes of further rainfall faded due to the arrival of dry northeasterly winds, which disrupted the moisture-laden clouds needed for sustained rain.
The weather turned breezy and slightly cool, offering temporary relief from the heat, but the expected showers failed to materialize as atmospheric conditions shifted.
Meteorologists explained that while upper Sindh, including Larkana, benefited from a strong western disturbance, Karachi’s coastal position and dry inland winds blocked the moisture needed for further rain.
The Meteorological Department said rain chances in Karachi remain slim, but cloud cover may linger until Tuesday.
