Kiswah prepares new cover for the Kaaba, replacement set for 1st of Muharram

The Kiswah factory in Saudi Arabia has completed the production of a new cover for the Kaaba, the sacred structure located at the center of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. According to reports from Arab media, the replacement of the Kaaba’s cover is scheduled to take place on the 1st of Muharram.

Traditionally, the cover of the Kaaba is changed every year as part of its maintenance. This year’s cover, which weighs a total of 670 kg, is made from high-quality silk fabric adorned with intricate designs. In addition, approximately 120 kg of gold and 100 kg of silver thread have been used to enhance the beauty and craftsmanship of the cover.

The new cover will be officially handed over to the administration of the Masjid al-Haram on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, marking the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage. However, the actual replacement process will occur on the 1st of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.

Changing the cover of the Kaaba is a meticulous task that requires the expertise of skilled craftsmen. Around 200 workers have been involved in the production and preparation of the new cover, ensuring that every detail is meticulously executed.

It is worth mentioning that the change of the Kaaba’s cover has been adjusted from the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the day of Arafat, to the 1st of Muharram to avoid congestion and facilitate the smooth transition of the cover.

The replacement of the Kaaba’s cover holds great significance for Muslims worldwide, as it symbolizes the renewal and rejuvenation of the sacred site. The Kaaba remains a central focal point for millions of Muslims who perform the Hajj pilgrimage and engage in spiritual worship throughout the year.
