The provincial health minister for Sindh, Dr. Azra Pechuho, has started the anti-Covid immunisation campaign for kids aged 5 to 11.
At a ceremony conducted at the office of the Sindh Health Department, which was also attended by senior representatives of the provincial health department and the United States Agency for International Development, the door-to-door anti-Covid immunisation campaign for kids was officially begun (USAID).
2.4 million kids between the ages of 5 and 11 will receive immunizations during the ongoing campaign in their homes, as well as at private and public schools in Karachi and Hyderabad. The immunisation campaign will be finished in stages, with the initial stage lasting until September 24.
Children who are enrolled in school will receive the COVID-19 vaccine, according to health secretary Zulfiqar Shah. In comparison to other regions of the nation, Sindh saw the most vaccinations given.
According to Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho, the government’s ongoing vaccination drive to limit the spread of the coronavirus among youngsters specifically targeted school-aged children.
Some parents, according to her, had raised concern about the COVID-19 immunizations. “Through the Pakistan Pharmacists Association, we are raising awareness about the immunisation of children who are attending clinics.”
“Insulin syringes will be utilised, and paediatric dosages of the COVID-19 vaccination are lower than those given to adults. Children and adults will both receive the same immunizations, but at different dosages.
Dr. Azra Pechuho acknowledged the dengue outbreak’s 27 patient fatalities and the fact that there have been more than 4,000 cases documented thus far. 323 beds have been set aside in Karachi for dengue patients, she continued.
The National Institute of Health reports that the paediatric Covid immunisation programme was also started earlier in the day in the federal capital Islamabad (NIH).
The COVID-19 vaccination effort will continue through September 24 to immunise children between the ages of 5 and 12 against COVID-19, according to the health authorities.
