The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued a clarification regarding the legal status of the Rs75 commemorative banknote, categorically rejecting rumours about its demonetisation. According to the SBP’s spokesperson Abid Qamar, the Rs75 commemorative banknote was issued last year to mark the country’s 75 years of independence and has legal status just like other currency notes.
“The SBP issues all currency notes under Section 25 of its Act,” Qamar said in a video message posted on the central bank’s official Twitter handle.
He further added that the commemorative banknote is a legal tender and can be used in all transactions. There is no truth to the rumours claiming that the government has discontinued or withdrawn the banknote, he stated.
“The Rs75 commemorative banknote has no expiration date and can be used in all transactions,” Qamar confirmed.
Earlier, there were reports of shopkeepers refusing to accept Rs75 notes in some parts of the country during Eid ul Fitr, triggering rumours about the demonetisation of the banknote. However, the SBP has clarified that such rumours are baseless and urged the public to continue using the Rs75 commemorative banknote as they would any other legal tender.
