Random doping tests planned for Pakistani athletes ahead of Asian Games 2023

In a bid to ensure fair competition and uphold the integrity of sports, the Pakistan Olympics Association (POA) and the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) are gearing up to conduct random doping tests for athletes in preparation for the Asian Games 2023. Sources reveal that around 30 to 40 players will be subject to these tests as part of the rigorous pre-event measures.

All necessary arrangements for the doping testing programs have been put in place, and the initiative will target sports that have previously experienced doping test irregularities. Specifically, the focus will be on disciplines such as Weightlifting, Athletics, and Kabaddi, which have encountered doping issues in the past.

The Pakistan Weightlifting Association has had its share of challenges in dealing with doping-related matters. In the recently concluded 34th National Games held in May 2023, positive doping test results were reported among some Athletics and Weightlifting players, underscoring the importance of strict anti-doping measures.

According to informed sources, the doping tests are scheduled to commence this upcoming weekend, ensuring that athletes competing in the Games are adhering to the highest standards of fair play and sportsmanship.

It’s noteworthy that the Asian Games 2023 will be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8. Pakistan is set to participate in a diverse range of sports, including Archery, Athletics, Bridge, Badminton, Boxing, Cricket, Climbing, E-sports, Fencing, Golf, Hockey, Kabaddi, Karate, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Tennis, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, and Wushu.

However, some significant sports like Judo, Equestrian, Baseball, Football, and Gymnastics will not feature Pakistani athletes due to funding constraints and delays in confirming entries. This emphasizes the need for sustained support and investment in a wide range of sports disciplines to ensure a well-rounded representation at international events and competitions.
