Mir Nadir Magsi, a prominent PPP member of the Sindh Assembly, has disclosed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has granted Sindh and Balochistan’s request for the construction of a giant flood drain to prevent losses during flash floods.
Following the region’s above-average rainfall, the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan experienced severe flooding and resulting losses.
A flood drain between the two provinces was required by the members of the flood emergency committees of the two provinces, according to Magsi, a former provincial minister, in order to drain the floodwater.
“The prime minister has established a committee for carrying out the important initiative,” he declared. The committee that will discuss the initiative and gather suggestions for its execution includes me, Magsi added.
The Sindh and Balochistan provinces in Pakistan’s south and southwest have been particularly hard struck by this year’s above-average rainfall, which has also had a significant negative impact on agriculture and other economic activity.
In a previous conversation with the prime minister, Sindh’s Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah pushed for the rapid completion of the Right Bank Outfall Drain (RBOD) as well as an upgrade to Karachi’s storm water drainage system.
