Pakistan ‘shouldn’t visit India for World Cup’: Moin Khan

Former cricketer Moin Khan expressed his belief that the Pakistan cricket team should not visit India for the upcoming World Cup if India does not agree to play the Asia Cup in Pakistan. During a discussion with journalists, the former wicket-keeper urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to make a strong case for hosting the complete Asia Cup in the country this year, rather than allowing India to dictate the terms of the tournament.

Khan criticized India’s attempts to use its financial power to impose its will on other cricket boards, saying that cricket should be played in a spirit of cooperation and mutual respect. He emphasized that the issue should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation between the boards of India and Pakistan.

“If India does not come to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup, then Pakistan should not go either for the World Cup,” Khan said. “I think the Pakistan Cricket Board should oppose this.”

Khan also suggested that if India insists on playing the Asia Cup at a neutral venue, Pakistan’s matches in the World Cup should also be held at a neutral venue.

It is worth noting that last year, Pakistani cricket authorities hinted that they may withdraw from the World Cup in India, after Indian officials announced that they would not send a team to the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan. The Indian cricket board secretary, Jay Shah, stated that India “can’t” send a team to Pakistan and that the tournament would need to be moved to a neutral venue. Several options have been proposed to resolve the impasse, including a hybrid model for the Asia Cup. India is expected to play its matches during the Asia Cup 2023 at a neutral venue, with UAE or Oman being considered as potential locations for India’s participation in the tournament.
