Lahore airport runway to be temporarily closed for two months due to bird hazards

In response to concerns over potential bird strikes on the runway, the Lahore Allama Iqbal International Airport (AIIP) has announced the temporary closure of its runway for two months during specific hours.

The decision, approved by the director general of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), aims to mitigate the risk of birds colliding with planes on the runway.

According to a notice issued by the CAA, flight operations at Lahore Airport will be suspended from 5 am to 8 am. The closure will be in effect from July 15 to September 15, 2023.

All domestic and foreign airlines have been notified by the aviation regulator, and they are instructed to reschedule their flights accordingly to accommodate the airport closure period.

This temporary measure prioritizes the safety of passengers and aircraft by minimizing the potential hazards associated with bird strikes on the runway. The Lahore Airport authorities are working diligently to ensure the smooth functioning of flight operations during the remaining hours of the day.
