Karachi authorities launch initiative to clear dilapidated buildings

In a bid to address safety concerns, municipal authorities in Karachi have initiated a plan to evacuate dilapidated buildings across the city. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hasan Naqvi.

During the meeting, which included participation via video link from various officials, Assistant Commissioner South, Junaid Alam, presented an assessment of dilapidated buildings in the southern district. It was decided that deputy commissioners from all districts would conduct thorough surveys of such buildings and submit detailed reports within the next week.

Commissioner Naqvi stressed the urgency of taking immediate action to mitigate the risks posed by these structures to public safety. He urged officials to collaborate closely with the Sindh Building Control Authority to ensure effective measures are implemented.

Additionally, Commissioner Naqvi directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to assess historic buildings and ancient markets under its jurisdiction and take necessary steps to address any safety concerns.

The initiative aims to prioritize public safety by proactively addressing the risks associated with dilapidated structures in Karachi.
