A notorious criminal gang known as the ‘Bengali Gang’ has resurfaced in Karachi, carrying out a series of robberies and attacks on citizens who resist their criminal activities. The gang, previously involved in a high-profile killing in Korangi, has targeted various areas in the city, including Mehmoodabad, Korangi Industrial Area, Zaman Town, Landhi, Defence, and Baloch Colony.
According to the police, several citizens have been injured and killed by the gang members while trying to resist robberies. Although the dacoit gang members have been arrested multiple times in the past, they resumed their criminal activities after being released on bail.
In addition to the Bengali Gang, police have also identified the involvement of Siraiki and Burmese gangs in mugging incidents in the Korangi area. These gangs have been found to share weapons among themselves to carry out their criminal activities.
Law enforcement agencies had previously conducted a major operation in Korangi, resulting in the arrest of over 100 members of various dacoit gangs. However, the resurgence of the Bengali Gang highlights the persistent challenges in curbing criminal activities in the city.
In a recent joint operation conducted by Rangers and the police, an alleged street criminal named Zohan Ali, also known as Sanwal, was arrested. The suspect confessed to being involved in more than 100 robbery and dacoity incidents, during which he stole over 120 mobile phones and Rs300,000 in cash. Three stolen motorcycles were also recovered from his possession. The accused has a history of criminal activities and has faced imprisonment multiple times.
The resurgence of criminal gangs in Karachi underscores the need for continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to effectively tackle crime and ensure the safety and security of the citizens.
