E-Passport services expand nationwide

Following a successful launch in Islamabad, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, operating under the Ministry of Interior, has commenced the issuance of e-passports from all passport offices across the country. This expansion brings the convenience of e-passports to a wider audience, transforming the passport application and issuance process.

The introduction of e-passports in the federal capital in June marked a significant milestone. At the launch event, former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had emphasized that the facility, previously accessible to diplomatic and government officials, would gradually be extended to Islamabad residents and subsequently to other regions.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on July 25, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports announced the completion and shipment of the first-ever passport application processed through the Inland Online Application.

Today, the directorate has unveiled the fee schedule for e-passports, encompassing various options to cater to citizens’ diverse needs:

  • The normal fee for a 5-year e-passport with 36 pages stands at Rs. 9,000.
  • An urgent 5-year e-passport with 36 pages requires a fee of Rs. 15,000.
  • For a 72-page e-passport, the normal fee is set at Rs. 16,500.
  • Urgent processing of a 72-page e-passport incurs a fee of Rs. 27,000.
  • Citizens applying for a 10-year passport with 36 pages will be charged a normal fee of Rs. 13,500.
  • The urgent processing of a 10-year passport with 36 pages carries a fee of Rs. 22,500.
  • For a 72-page ten-year passport, the normal fee is Rs. 24,750.
  • Urgent processing of a 72-page ten-year passport is subject to a fee of Rs. 40,500.

Notably, the fee schedule for normal passports remains unchanged, ensuring continuity for those opting for the traditional passport issuance route.

Effective from August 16, the announced fee schedule aims to provide greater flexibility and accessibility to citizens seeking e-passport services. The move aligns with the government’s commitment to modernizing administrative processes and offering enhanced services to the public.
