Businessman kidnapped in Karachi, released shortly

A businessman from Scheme 33 in Karachi was kidnapped and robbed by two unidentified men dressed in uniforms similar to the Sindh police.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred while the victim, Muhammad Javed, was on his way to his factory.

The suspects stopped his vehicle, pretending to be police officers, and held him at gunpoint. They kidnapped him in his own car and later stole two mobile phones, cash, and the vehicle itself. After looting him, the suspects left him on the Super Highway before fleeing.

This is not the first time such a crime has taken place.

It is worth mentioning here that Karachi has witnessed around 26,500 crime incidents in the past five months, sparking serious concerns over public safety, according to data released by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).

According to the CPLC, a total of 245 people lost their lives, including 48 killed during robbery resistance between January till May 2025.

The city also saw over 17,994 incidents of motorcycle theft and snatching, and 684 cases of car and vehicle snatching or theft.

Mobile phone snatching remains a top issue, with more than 6,489 cases reported in the same period.

The CPLC also recorded 11 kidnappings for ransom and 32 extortion cases, indicating a steady presence of organized criminal activity.

In a related development, the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) and CPLC successfully rescued a kidnapping victim, Nasir Hussain, abducted on October 5 from Sector 5-D in Bilal Colony.
