The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released a scientific forecast for the likely date of Eidul Fitr 2026 in Pakistan, based on the expected sighting of the Shawwal 1447 AH moon.
According to their analysis, the crescent moon is unlikely to be visible on March 19, making Eid-ul-Fitr most likely to fall on Saturday, March 21.

According to PMD’s astronomical analysis, the new moon is expected to be born at 06:23 PST on March 19. By sunset, the moon will be only 12 to 13 hours old across most meteorological observatories in the country, which is not enough for it to be visible to the naked eye.
“The crescent will not be sighted on the 29th of Ramadan,” the PMD stated, confirming that Eid celebrations will follow the completion of a 30-day fasting month.

The department emphasized that while astronomical calculations provide a scientific forecast, the official declaration of the moon sighting and the exact date of Eid-ul-Fitr rests solely with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Traditionally, the festival date depends on the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
