Investigations are underway from multiple angles into the removal of former DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah following serious allegations of involvement in a kidnapping for ransom case linked to a business dispute worth more than Rs 310 million (Rs31 crore).
According to media reports, Pir Muhammad Shah is accused of misusing his influence to allegedly facilitate the kidnapping of a businessman.
Officials said that on December 19, 2025, Pir Muhammad Shah registered a case against the businessman in Hyderabad over a financial dispute involving Rs31 crore.
Media reports suggests that the investigators revealed that on the evening of January 14, police officials from Hyderabad travelled to Karachi. The Hyderabad police allegedly picked up the businessman from Defence Phase 6.

However, following intervention by members of the traders’ community, the businessman was released the same day.
Subsequently, on January 22, a kidnapping for ransom case was registered at Gizri police station on the complaint of the businessman, Danish Mateen, against Pir Muhammad Shah and others.
In his statement, the complainant said that on January 14, he left his residence in Defence Phase 6 for his office when a white car intercepted him.
He alleged that three men attempted to forcibly abduct him, two of whom were wearing uniforms resembling police attire.

The complainant claimed the suspects demanded over Rs31 crore and later called his home to demand a ransom of Rs30 crore.
Danish Mateen further stated that the accused took Rs1 million from him and released him near the highway later that night. He said he was dropped near his office around 11:30 pm.
Meanwhile, the SSP Hyderabad confirmed that three police officials involved in the incident have been suspended. The suspended officers include one assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and two constables. The IG Sindh has also sought an explanation from Pir Muhammad Shah in connection with the case.
The matter also came under scrutiny in the Sindh High Court, which expressed strong displeasure with the IG Sindh for failing to submit a report in a petition challenging the registration of the kidnapping for ransom case.

The court summoned the IG Sindh and the ASI who registered the FIR in their personal capacity. The petitioner’s lawyer argued that the case stemmed from a business dispute and that both parties had filed cheque bounce cases against each other.
Justice Zulfiqar Ali Sangi questioned why the accused was not given a CRO, noting that such action would weaken the kidnapping charge.
Justice Adnan-ul-Karim Memon warned that misuse of police authority could lead to cases being registered against police officers themselves.
The Sindh High Court adjourned the hearing until February 11.
