Karachi Metropolitan University (KMU) has awarded Rs. 14.7 million in need- and merit-based scholarships to 93 deserving students enrolled in its MBBS, BDS and DPT programmes, marking a significant milestone in the University’s commitment to supporting talented students and ensuring that financial constraints do not stand in the way of professional education.
Funded entirely through KMU’s own resources, the scholarships will provide financial assistance to the selected students for one academic year. A total of 116 students applied for the scholarship programme, with 93 applicants selected following a comprehensive assessment of both financial need and academic merit.
The initiative marks the first major need-based scholarship programme undertaken by the institution since its transition from college to university status, reflecting KMU’s growing commitment to student welfare, inclusive education and academic excellence.
Speaking on the initiative, Vice Chancellor Karachi Metropolitan University Prof. Dr. Wasim Qazi said that supporting deserving students was an essential part of the University’s vision of creating an inclusive and student-centred institution.

“At Karachi Metropolitan University, we believe that talent should never be limited by financial circumstances. The Vice Chancellor said that the scholarship programme represented an investment not only in individual students but also in the future of the healthcare sector and society.
“These scholarships are an investment in our students and, through them, an investment in the future of our society. Our MBBS, BDS and DPT students are preparing for professions that carry an immense responsibility towards human life and wellbeing. Supporting them today means strengthening the professionals who will serve our communities tomorrow,” he added.

Prof. Dr. Qazi emphasized that the University’s decision to allocate Rs. 14.7 million from its own resources demonstrated KMU’s commitment to translating its institutional vision into tangible opportunities for students.

The scholarship programme was administered through the University’s Financial Aid Committee. The committee conducted a detailed assessment of applications, considering both the financial circumstances and academic performance of applicants to ensure that assistance was directed towards students most deserving of support.
The scholarships have been awarded to students pursuing MBBS, BDS and DPT, providing the selected recipients with financial support for one complete academic year.
