Karachi Police on High Alert: Security Measures Announced for Businesses Ahead of JI Strike

JI April 26 strike

Karachi police have launched a foolproof security plan ahead of Jamaat-e-Islami’s April 26 strike, called in solidarity with Palestinians under Israeli aggression.

On orders from Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, additional personnel will be deployed across markets and public areas to handle any unrest.

Citizens are urged to stay calm, ignore rumors, and report suspicious activities to police helpline 15 or nearby stations.

The Additional IG reaffirmed that police are fully prepared to ensure safety and peace in Karachi.

On the other hand, the All City Traders’ Alliance has clearly announced that traders disown strike called by Jamaat-e-Islami for Saturday, April 26, 2025.

In a statement, President Hammad Poonawala said all markets under the alliance will remain open and will not support the political strike.

He emphasized solidarity with the people of Palestine, urging traders to boycott Israeli products instead of shutting down their businesses.

Poonawala warned that shuttering markets would hurt daily wage earners and the struggling economy rather than contribute to the Palestinian cause.

Sharjeel Goplani, the representative of All City Traders Alliance, clarified they had already held a protest on April 7 and were not part of the new strike.

“The April 26 protest is not affiliated with us. Timber Market and others will stay open as usual,” he stated in an official statement.

Goplani added that further market closures would be unaffordable, given the country’s ongoing financial challenges and unstable business conditions.

He urged all traders to continue normal operations and not respond to politically motivated strike calls that harm the local economy.

Jamaat-e-Islami has called for a nationwide shutdown on April 26 in support of Gaza, following recent Israeli military actions in Palestine.
