New electricity rates in Pakistan after PM’s tariff cut

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a major reduction in electricity prices, offering relief to households and businesses across Pakistan.

The power tariff for domestic consumers has been reduced by Rs7.41 per unit, while industrial consumers will see a cut of Rs7.59 per unit.

The announcement was made in Islamabad, where the prime minister emphasized that the decision aims to ease financial pressure on the public.

The move follows the government’s request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and approval from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which initially permitted a Re1 per kilowatt reduction.

Revised Electricity Rates

The average power tariff has been cut by Rs7.41 per unit, bringing it down from Rs45.05 to Rs37.64. Domestic consumers will benefit from a Rs7.15 per unit reduction, while commercial users receive an even greater relief of Rs8.58 per unit, with their rates decreasing from Rs71.06 to Rs62.47.

Industrial consumers see their tariffs reduced by Rs7.69 per unit, and general services experience a Rs7.18 per unit cut, lowering their rate from Rs56.66 to Rs49.48.

Similarly, bulk supply tariffs have been slashed by Rs7.18 per unit (from Rs55.05 to Rs47.87), and the agricultural sector gets the same Rs7.18 per unit reduction, bringing their rates down from Rs41.76 to Rs34.58.
