Nationwide Anti-Polio Campaign kicks off amidst atringent security measures

Commencing across the country, a nationwide anti-polio campaign has been initiated, targeting more than 24 million children to receive anti-polio drops. The campaign aims to bolster efforts in eradicating polio from Pakistan, a persistent challenge in the public health domain.

Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmed, Coordinator of the National Health Services, urged citizens to ensure their children under the age of 5 receive the polio vaccine, emphasizing its critical importance in safeguarding against the debilitating disease.

Under the auspices of the National Emergency Operations Center, Dr. Shahzad Baig highlighted the meticulous planning behind the campaign, with over 4 lakh polio workers mobilized to cover high-risk districts across 91 districts nationwide.

In Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated a special anti-polio campaign, symbolizing the provincial commitment to combatting polio. The Chief Minister, alongside Provincial Health Minister Dr. Ezra Fazal Pechuho and other officials, underscored the significance of the campaign in 24 districts of Sindh, emphasizing the need for robust security measures to safeguard health workers and facilitate vaccination efforts.

Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab echoed similar sentiments, launching the anti-polio campaign in Karachi and emphasizing community cooperation to achieve a polio-free society.

In Balochistan, a dedicated 7-day anti-polio campaign has commenced in 30 districts, aiming to vaccinate over 2.395 million children. Despite recent challenges, including reported polio cases in Chaman and Dera Bugti, the province remains steadfast in its commitment to polio eradication.

Similarly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has initiated anti-polio campaigns across 13 districts, with stringent security measures in place to ensure the safety of health workers. Deputy Commissioner Lucky Marwat, Rahmat Ali Wazir, inaugurated a 5-day expedition, emphasizing the critical role of security personnel in facilitating vaccination efforts.

Meanwhile, in North Waziristan, Deputy Commissioner Manzoor Afridi announced a 5-day anti-polio campaign, targeting over 145,000 children. With the deployment of special teams and heightened security measures, the district aims to bolster vaccination coverage and mitigate the risk of polio transmission.

The nationwide anti-polio campaign underscores Pakistan’s concerted efforts to combat the disease, with a collective resolve to protect children from its debilitating effects.
