The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) remained under pressure on Wednesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index closing nearly 1% lower as broad-based selling weighed on investor sentiment.

The KSE-100 Index settled at 174,429.92, down 1,703.64 points, or 0.97%, from the previous close of 176,133.56.

The benchmark touched an intraday high of 176,255.64 before sliding to a session low of 174,104.06, reflecting persistent selling across key sectors. Trading in the index generated a volume of 266.16 million shares, with a traded value of Rs17.25 billion.

Overall market activity remained robust despite the decline. A total of 695.70 million shares were traded on the exchange, with an aggregate value of Rs25.40 billion recorded through 351,359 transactions.

Market breadth remained firmly negative, as 353 stocks declined compared with 108 gainers, while 103 issues remained unchanged out of 564 traded securities.

Among the most actively traded stocks, Trust Securities & Brokerage Limited (TSBL) led the volume chart with 134.17 million shares, closing at Rs2.41, up Rs0.02.

Cnergyico PK Limited (CNERGY) followed with 99.43 million shares, ending at Rs9.88, down Rs0.08, while TPL Properties Limited (TPLP) traded 49.83 million shares to close at Rs13.39, gaining Rs0.12.

Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) attracted strong investor interest, advancing Rs1.67 to Rs50.86 on a volume of 33.58 million shares.

Among other actively traded stocks, The Bank of Punjab (BOP) declined Rs0.28 to Rs33.75 with 22.94 million shares changing hands, while Dharki Chemical Works Limited (DCL) gained Rs0.68 to close at Rs11.74 on 20.75 million shares.

WorldCall Telecom Limited (WTL) completed the list of top-volume stocks, falling Rs0.03 to Rs1.23 after trading 19.67 million shares.

The session reflected cautious investor sentiment as widespread selling outweighed buying interest, dragging the benchmark below the 175,000-point level.
