The Karachi Traffic Police have revealed that more than one million electronic challans (e-challans) have been issued since the launch of the city’s faceless traffic enforcement system seven months ago, generating hundreds of millions of rupees in recovered fines.
According to traffic police officials, the technology-based enforcement system was introduced to improve traffic discipline, reduce violations, and ensure transparent implementation of traffic laws without direct interaction between motorists and traffic personnel.
Rs700 Million Recovered Through Traffic Fines
Speaking to the media, DSP Traffic Malir said that since the implementation of the system, a total of 1,058,918 e-challans have been issued through the traffic police dashboard and monitoring network.

He revealed that approximately Rs700 million has been recovered in the form of traffic fines during the seven-month period.
The fines were issued for various traffic violations detected through surveillance cameras and automated monitoring systems installed across Karachi.
The official explained that the e-challan system operates under a warning-based policy for first-time offenders.
Under the current mechanism, the first detected violation is placed in deferment, commonly referred to as a waiver, and serves as a warning to motorists.

E-Challan System for Lane Violations
Launched in Karachi
If the same individual commits a similar violation again, a formal traffic challan is issued. Officials believe this approach encourages citizens to follow traffic regulations without immediately imposing financial penalties.
Deadline for Challan Payment
According to the traffic police, motorists are required to pay the challan within 14 days of issuance. Failure to make payment within the specified period can result in additional penalties under the applicable rules.
DSP Traffic Malir noted that if first-time waivers had not been provided, the total recoverable amount from traffic violations could have reached several billion rupees. The waiver system was introduced as a public awareness measure to educate road users and promote compliance with traffic laws.
More Than 746,000 Challans Paid
Officials also disclosed that more than 746,200 e-challans have been paid by motorists so far.
The significant payment rate reflects growing public acceptance of the digital enforcement system and increasing awareness regarding traffic regulations.
The faceless e-challan system relies on cameras and automated monitoring technologies to identify traffic violations, including signal jumping, lane violations, wrong-way driving, and other offences.
Challans are generated electronically and sent directly to vehicle owners through official channels.

Traffic police have appealed to citizens to follow traffic rules not only to avoid financial penalties but also to contribute to safer roads and smoother traffic flow across Karachi.
The authorities maintain that the digital system has reduced opportunities for corruption, improved transparency, and strengthened law enforcement by ensuring that traffic violations are recorded and processed objectively.
The e-challan initiative is part of Karachi Traffic Police’s broader strategy to modernize traffic management through technology and encourage responsible driving behavior throughout the city.
