Traffic Police have officially started issuing e-challans for lane violations on Shahrah-e-Faisal, Karachi from June 1, 2026, as part of efforts to improve road discipline and reduce traffic accidents on one of the city’s busiest roads.

The new enforcement system was launched after a month-long public awareness campaign during which motorists were informed about the upcoming penalties for violating designated lane rules.

Speaking to media representatives, DIG Traffic Karachi Peer Mohammad Shah said the challan process is now fully operational and violations are being monitored through a faceless digital system.

Under the system, traffic violations are detected through surveillance cameras and electronic monitoring without direct interaction between traffic officers and motorists.

How the New Lane System Works

According to traffic police officials, Shahrah-e-Faisal has been divided into four lanes, with separate lanes designated for different categories of vehicles.

The two right-side lanes have been reserved for fast-moving vehicles, including private cars, jeeps, and double-cabin vehicles.

Meanwhile, the two left-side lanes are designated for slow-moving traffic, including motorcycles, rickshaws, and other commercial vehicles.

Vehicles That Can Be Fined

Officials said any motorcycle, rickshaw, or commercial vehicle found traveling in the fast-moving lanes will receive an electronic challan.

Similarly, private vehicles continuously using the slow-moving lanes in violation of traffic regulations may also face penalties.

Karachi E-Challan Fines on Lane Violation

Under the newly implemented penalty structure, motorcyclists violating lane rules will face a fine of Rs2,500.

Private car drivers will be fined Rs5,000, while commercial vehicle operators will receive a challan of Rs7,500 for lane violations.

Digital Monitoring and Transparent Enforcement

DIG Traffic said the system has been designed to ensure transparent enforcement of traffic laws and encourage motorists to follow lane discipline.

He added that the objective is not merely to issue fines but to improve road safety and maintain a smoother traffic flow on the city’s main corridor.

Traffic police officials have urged citizens to familiarize themselves with the lane regulations and comply with traffic rules to avoid penalties.
