Students and teachers at Federal Urdu University in Karachi staged a protest after reports emerged that a police station had been shifted inside the university premises.
Members of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) joined the demonstration and strongly opposed the presence of police facilities within the university premises.
Protesters gathered at the campus entrance gates, insisting that educational institutions should remain dedicated to academics rather than law enforcement activities.

The demonstrators demanded that the university administration clarify the legal status of the police setup and explain under which law or authority approval was granted.
Speaking during the protest, Furqan Baig, Nazim of the Professional Zone, questioned the legality of the arrangement and criticized the administration for allegedly making the decision without consulting students or university stakeholders.
An IJT delegation later visited the site and claimed that police personnel and mobile units were already operating from inside the campus.

According to the student organization, the visible police presence has created fear and anxiety among students and raised concerns about the academic environment.
Following the protest, university officials held negotiations with a three-member IJT delegation that included Gulshan Campus Nazim Nauman, Abdul Haq Musab, and JPMC Nazim Sikandar.
IJT representatives said the administration described the arrangement as temporary and stated that the police offices would remain there for three months.

The student organization further alleged that the setup was established through a personal arrangement made by the campus administration.
Protesters demanded that the police station be removed before Eid and warned of expanding demonstrations if their demands were ignored.
IJT also announced plans to pursue legal action, saying there would be no compromise on student safety, the educational atmosphere, or university property.

Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor Zabta Khan Shinwari defended the decision during an interview with local media.
He stated that a complete police station was not being shifted to the campus and clarified that only two temporary offices had been provided for a short period of two months due to an emergency situation.
He also claimed there would be no detention center, no accused individuals brought to campus, and no unrestricted police movement inside the university.

However, Federal Urdu University Teachers Association President, Asghar Dashti, rejected the vice chancellor’s explanation, arguing that the presence of any police station within an educational institution is incompatible with the university environment.
He accused the administration of bypassing statutory bodies and violating university procedures by allowing police presence without approval from the senate and other governing forums.
Teachers and students maintained that the move has already created an atmosphere of fear on campus and vowed to continue protests until the police setup is completely removed from the university premises.
