Karachi Metropolitan University (KMU) has inaugurated its new Department of Computer Sciences, marking a significant step in the university’s efforts to strengthen its academic, research, and technological capabilities and prepare students for the demands of a rapidly evolving digital world.

Speaking at the inauguration, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Wasim Qazi said the establishment of the Department of Computer Sciences reflects KMU’s commitment to equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven world.
He said, “Our vision is to build Karachi Metropolitan University as a forward-looking institution where knowledge, technology, research, and innovation come together to prepare our students for the challenges and opportunities of the future. The Department of Computer Sciences is an important milestone in this journey. We want our students not only to earn degrees, but also to develop the skills, creativity, and innovative thinking needed to make a meaningful contribution to Pakistan’s digital transformation.”
The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the importance of providing students with opportunities to engage in research, innovation, and practical work involving emerging technologies.
He noted that fields such as artificial intelligence are transforming industries and creating new opportunities, making it essential for students to gain both academic knowledge and practical exposure.
Registrar Dr. Mehmood Ahmed Khan said the new department represents an important addition to KMU’s academic programs and reflects the university’s commitment to expanding quality education and providing students with the facilities needed for academic and professional growth.
He said, “The establishment of the Department of Computer Sciences is a significant addition to Karachi Metropolitan University’s academic portfolio. Our focus is on creating an environment where students have access to well-equipped laboratories, digital resources, quality classrooms, and research facilities. These resources will enable our students and faculty to pursue academic excellence while developing solutions to the technological challenges of today.”
The department’s laboratories and classrooms have been designed to support practical, technology-driven education, while its research facilities and digital library will provide students and faculty with resources for academic research, innovation, and collaborative projects.
