K-Electric (KE) has begun its annual December maintenance drive, scheduling essential repair and inspection work on fourteen of its seventy-four grid stations to strengthen the city’s transmission network and ensure greater system reliability before summer demand returns.
According to the power utility, maintenance activities are intentionally carried out during winter when electricity consumption is lower, enabling engineers to safely complete transmission upgrades without disrupting overall power planning.
KE spokesperson Imran Rana said the company is committed to maintaining a modern and secure high-voltage system, adding that preventive maintenance remains critical for reducing future faults and avoiding large-scale breakdowns.

Rana confirmed that fourteen grid stations – including Clifton, Airport-2, Valika, North Karachi, Surjani, Azizabad, Federal A&B, PRL, Airport-1, Gharo, Elander Road and Liaquatabad – have been selected based on technical assessments and system needs. Teams will conduct inspections, essential repairs and equipment upgrades across these locations.
K-Electric cautioned that some areas connected to these grid stations may experience temporary power outages, but emphasized that such interruptions should not be mistaken for load shedding.

The utility said it will maximize alternative supply arrangements to minimize inconvenience to consumers during the required technical work.
The spokesperson reiterated that these planned activities strengthen the city’s transmission framework, enhance grid resilience during periods of high demand and reduce the likelihood of unexpected faults, especially in the summer months.

KE has advised consumers to check their area-specific schedules through the official website, the KE Live App and digital platforms, all of which will provide updated timings and expected service adjustments throughout December.
The utility further stated that its social media teams, WhatsApp self-service portal, and helpline 118 will remain fully operational to assist customers round the clock.
By carrying out its annual grid maintenance, K-Electric aims to reinforce public confidence in the reliability of Karachi’s power infrastructure while ensuring a more stable and uninterrupted supply for households, businesses and industries across the city.
