Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah announced that the Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge project has resumed construction, with new timelines and updated cost structures discussed during the board meeting.

CM Sindh announced that the Ghotki–Kandhkot Road and Bridge Project will be inaugurated in June 2027 instead of 2029.

The bridge connects Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan, and work had previously been halted. Construction has now resumed under revised timelines, addressing cost escalations, security challenges, and technical revisions.

The announcement came during the 49th PPP Policy Board meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, attended by provincial ministers, senior officials, and technical committee members. The Chief Minister reviewed project progress and challenges.

The Ghotki–Kandhkot Bridge Project was launched in May 2018, with the initial hydraulic design approved for a three-kilometre bridge. Construction began in August 2020 but was later revised following flood-related observations by the Indus River Commission.

After the 2022 floods, IRC mandated bank-to-bank construction for future bridges. The Ghotki–Kandhkot Bridge’s length increased from three km to 12.2 km, requiring major revisions in scope, timeline, and budget, with amended agreements signed in 2023.

The project’s current cost is Rs 32 billion, with substantial completion scheduled for June 2029. Sindh government officials, however, aim for early completion by June 2027, ensuring security and law enforcement at the site.

Construction in difficult katcha areas has progressed steadily. Segments one and two are nearing completion, while piling, shaft, and transom work for segments three and four is ongoing. Overall progress stands at 54% in piling, 49% in shafts, and 47% in transoms.

Financial close with leading commercial and Islamic banks is expected by early December 2025. The Chief Minister described the bridge as a “vital lifeline that will open new economic corridors for upper Sindh.”

Murad Ali Shah directed relevant departments to ensure uninterrupted execution, warning against delays. “This project is not just infrastructure – it is a promise to the people of Sindh, and we will deliver,” he said.
