The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has outlined the official procedure for obtaining a marriage certificate from Union Council, as it is mandatory in Pakistan.

Authorities advise couples who are planning a marriage to ensure it is registered properly in order to avoid legal complications, as the Union Council issues official certificates after document verification is complete.

Required Documents for Marriage Registration or Nikah Nama from Union Council:

  • Original Nikah Nama
  • Copies of the groom’s and bride’s CNICs
  • Copies of the identity cards of both sets of parents
  • Copies of the identity cards of the marriage witnesses

The bride or the groom can visit the Union Council office to submit documents, where staff members will inspect all information before starting the registration process.

Once documents have been verified for accuracy, Union Council staff will input all Nikah Nama details into the system and create a printed draft copy for review by applicants.

Candidates must proofread and sign their printed draft carefully after verifying every detail matches that recorded in the original Nikah Nama document.

After verification is completed, the Union Council will issue the marriage certificate as an official record recognized for immigration, legal and administrative purposes nationwide.
