The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has launched an automated birth and death registration system to make the process faster, more transparent, and accessible for citizens across Pakistan.

In collaboration with provincial governments, NADRA has introduced advanced digital notification tools in hospitals and health centers nationwide to ensure the timely recording of vital events.

The initiative was introduced under the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, which was approved by the Prime Minister of Pakistan on January 1, 2025. It aims to eliminate manual errors and procedural delays in vital record management.

Acting on the directives of the Federal Minister for Interior, NADRA is focusing on strengthening Pakistan’s registration system by bridging gaps and modernizing data flow from local institutions to the central authority.

Currently, the system is in its pilot phase and has been deployed in more than 50 hospitals and health centers across different provinces, including major facilities in Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, and Hyderabad.

Prominent hospitals such as PIMS, CDA Hospital, and Federal Government Hospital in Islamabad, Lady Aitchison Hospital in Lahore, and Bolan Medical College in Quetta are among those using the system.

Similarly, DHQ Hospitals in Haripur, Batkhela, and Mirpur, as well as Shaheed Syed Rehman Hospital in Gilgit, are also part of this digital registration network. Basic Health Units in Sindh are gradually being added to the system.

Through this automated mechanism, hospitals send real-time birth and death notifications directly to NADRA. Families receive alerts via mobile app and SMS, guiding them to complete formal registration at their respective Union Councils.

So far, NADRA has processed over 4,000 birth notifications and 407 death notifications through this advanced system, highlighting its early success in streamlining citizen services.

Citizens can now register births or deaths using the NADRA Mobile App or by visiting nearby Union Councils. The pilot phase is running in three districts of Punjab and will soon expand across the province.

NADRA plans to extend this service to all public and private hospitals nationwide, ensuring a unified, paperless, and efficient system for every Pakistani.
