Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Salman Akram Raja confirmed that Ali Amin Gandapur has officially resigned as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), following internal party decisions.
According to media reports, Salman Akram Raja said it was certain that Gandapur would no longer continue as Chief Minister, and the party has decided to appoint Sohail Afridi as his replacement.
Barrister Ali Zafar also confirmed the decision, stating that Sohail Afridi will soon be appointed as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Earlier reports had indicated that the PTI leadership had already finalized the move to remove Gandapur after consulting with the party’s top leadership, including its founder imprisoned in Adiala Jail.
Reports revealed that Bushra Bibi’s lawyer, Rai Suleiman, communicated the founder’s approval to replace Gandapur, signaling a significant leadership shift within the party’s provincial structure.
Media reports added that Sohail Afridi, belonging to Khyber District, is a prominent PTI figure and is now being considered the leading candidate for the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The development comes after a heated parliamentary party meeting, where disagreements over grouping and decision-making reportedly led to tensions between Alima Khanum and Ali Amin Gandapur.
Some parliamentarians urged reconciliation between the two sides, while others expressed support for leadership changes, including the removal of two provincial ministers from their positions.
