Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi has firmly rejected claims that he apologized to the Indian cricket board after the Asia Cup trophy controversy.

An Indian news channel, “India Today”, in its report early in the morning, claimed that the ACC president Mohsin Naqvi has apologized to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the controversy of the Asia Cup Trophy.

However, the report was immediately denied by the ACC president in a tweet, stating that, “Indian media thrives on lies, not facts. Let me make it absolutely clear: I have done nothing wrong and I have never apologized to the BCCI nor will I ever do so.”

He added that, “This fabricated nonsense is nothing but cheap propaganda, aimed only at misleading their own people. Unfortunately, India continues to drag politics into cricket, damaging the very spirit of the game.

“As ACC President , I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me,” he concluded.

At the presentation, Naqvi and other officials waited on stage, but Indian players stood away, signalling they would not accept the trophy directly from him. Their request to receive it from Emirates Cricket Board’s vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni was denied.

After a long delay, the trophy and medals were removed from the podium without being presented to the Indian cricketers. Host Simon Doull later confirmed the Indian team would not collect their awards that night, abruptly ending the post-match presentation ceremony.

The Indian players were seen confused and embarrassed over their decision when the trophy and medals were taken away.

Indian players went on to celebrate without the trophy, with captain Suryakumar Yadav mimicking an imaginary cup lift, which was later mocked by social media users.

Later, they posted celebratory photos on social media using trophy emojis.
