Karachi’s modern railway station will open on September 10, announced Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi.

During his visit to Faisalabad Railway Station, Abbasi told the media that short and long-term projects are progressing rapidly nationwide.

Under an agreement with the Sindh government, Rohri Railway Station will be upgraded on the Lahore model, while the modern Karachi station is now ready for inauguration.

He added that feasibility studies for the 250-kilometer Sibi-to-Rohri and 480-kilometer Rohri-to-Karachi track sections will be completed within two months. Construction work is expected to start by June next year.

The minister said Pakistan Railways has fully digitized its ticketing system. Train tracking is now active. ATMs have been installed at major stations, while free Wi-Fi service is being rolled out across 40 stations in Punjab.

Abbasi also mentioned that railway outsourcing will be completed by September 30. Passenger trains, freight trains, guest houses, hospitals, schools, and other facilities will be handed over to the private sector. The aim is to improve service quality and increase revenue.

Additionally, construction of the Shahdara-to-Raiwind linear park has started with a budget of Rs 2.35 billion. The project also includes the uplift of Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Taxila stations, along with the upgrade of a 50-kilometer section from Sheikh Zayed to Kuchlak in Balochistan.
