The Karachi Roads Rehabilitation Project has commenced large-scale restoration work across the city following directives from Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab. Repair teams are addressing potholes and damaged sections on major arteries, including Kashmir Road and Shaheed-e-Millat Road, while upgrades on secondary streets are also underway to improve connectivity.

The initiative is intended to reduce traffic congestion and ensure smoother travel for commuters. Work is being carried out using durable materials and modern techniques to extend the lifespan of repairs and limit the need for frequent maintenance.

According to Chief Engineer Zulfiqar Ali, the Karachi Roads Rehabilitation Project is progressing in planned phases. Critical routes are identified and prioritized, repair work is executed swiftly to minimize disruption, and quality inspections follow to meet safety and durability standards.

However, on August 06, KMC has officially begun converting the city’s traditional streetlights to solar-powered systems, starting with three major roads in the first phase of the project. The initiative was confirmed by Murtaza Wahab, who shared the update on social media, stating that “effective work on solarizing Karachi’s streetlights is now underway.”

He added that this move will not only cut down energy costs but also improve sustainability and efficiency in the city’s public lighting system.

“Visited the site where sample lights have now been placed. These lights will be electronically managed,” Wahab noted, adding the project is part of the broader #KarachiWorks development campaign.
