The Hub Canal project in Karachi has been completed and passed its test run successfully, according to Project Director Sikandar Zardari, confirming that the new line is fully functional.
He said water was released from the old canal to the new one through a complex technical process. This step was necessary for a successful transition.
The canal was tested 25 days ago, and no faults or leakage have been reported since then. Dozens of experts and technicians were present at the site.
Sikandar Zardari clarified that the video showing alleged sabotage is misleading. The visual shows a planned cut in the old line to extract water temporarily.
He said claims of system failure circulating on social media are entirely baseless and are aimed at spreading misinformation among citizens for political or personal motives.
The Project Director emphasized that the entire test run was recorded under the supervision of the Water Corporation, and the system is completely safe and operational.
He urged the public not to believe rumors and reassured that the new canal infrastructure is secure and ready for public service across Karachi.
Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab announced that Hub Canal II will officially be inaugurated on August 13. He confirmed that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will lead the ceremony.
Wahab said those circulating edited or false videos are harming Karachi’s interests and trying to damage a crucial Sindh government project meant to improve water supply.
He criticized certain media outlets for broadcasting the video without verifying facts from the Water Corporation and urged responsible journalism on public infrastructure matters.
Mayor Wahab reaffirmed that this new canal will help address the city’s ongoing water challenges and boost supply to areas facing shortages in recent months.
Both city and provincial authorities have warned that any attempt to spread fake news or sabotage public projects will be legally dealt with in the future.
