K-Electric Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Moonis Alvi has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court challenging the decision of the Provincial Ombudsman, who found him guilty of workplace harassment.
The Sindh High Court has temporarily suspended the ombudsman’s verdict. The court also issued notices to all involved parties and has sought their responses in the next hearing.
Key courtroom highlights
Justice Faizal Kamal Alam questioned the legal basis of the case.
Advocate Abid Zuberi, representing Alvi, argued that federal law applies to this institution, not provincial law.
He claimed that the judgment contains multiple legal flaws and that similar cases have previously fallen under the jurisdiction of National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) and Labour Courts, not the Provincial Ombudsman.
Zuberi also mentioned that WhatsApp messages were presented before the ombudsman but insisted that the ombudsman lacked legal authority to hear the complaint.

In the petition, Alvi’s legal team requested the immediate annulment of the ombudsman’s decision, stating that a similar case previously resulted in a stay order, setting a precedent.
The Provincial Ombudsman, the female complainant, and other related parties have been named as respondents in the case.
The court has also directed the petitioner (Moonis Alvi) to deposit Rs2.5 million with the court as part of the interim relief process.
