Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has spoken out in support of continuing cricket despite political tensions, following the announcement of the Asia Cup 2025 schedule.
Speaking to Indian media, Ganguly said, “There should be no incident like Pahalgam. The game should continue, and terrorism must be stopped.”
He added that India has always taken a firm stance against terrorism, but stressed that sports, especially cricket, should not be disrupted.
Commenting on the tournament’s groupings, Ganguly said, “It is fine for me to have India and Pakistan in the same group. Cricket must go on.”
The Asian Cricket Council revealed the official schedule on Saturday. Group A includes Pakistan, India, UAE, and Oman. Group B features Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong.
The placement of India and Pakistan in the same group has generated major interest among fans, as the two teams share a long-standing rivalry both on and off the field.
Ganguly’s remarks come amid calls to separate politics from sports, urging peace and unity through the game.
The Asia Cup is set to be a high-stakes tournament, with millions of fans across the continent looking forward to thrilling encounters and hoping for smooth proceedings both on and off the field.
