In a concerning development from the World University Games 2025, two Pakistani athletes, Shazil Ahmed and Nadeem Ali, have reportedly gone missing in Germany. Both athletes were part of the official Pakistani contingent participating in the global sports event.
According to official sources within the team, the athletes vanished after attending a team dinner on July 24. Their absence was first noticed the following morning when they failed to appear for breakfast. Both athletes had completed their scheduled competitions prior to their disappearance.
Importantly, their passports remain with the team manager, indicating that the athletes left without official documentation. This has raised serious concerns about their whereabouts and intentions. The Pakistani delegation is scheduled to return home on July 27, making the timing of the disappearance even more alarming.
Javed Memon, head of the Pakistani contingent, confirmed the incident and stated that a detailed statement regarding the situation will be issued soon. As of now, no official word has come from German authorities or the event organizers, but local law enforcement has reportedly been informed, and a preliminary search has been initiated.
While incidents of athletes going missing during international events have occurred in the past, such disappearances always spark diplomatic and security concerns. Pakistan’s Embassy in Germany is expected to be involved in resolving the matter.
The World University Games, an international multi-sport event for university athletes, attract thousands of participants from around the globe. Any breach of discipline or potential asylum attempt by athletes is taken seriously by both hosting nations and respective home countries.
