The Pakistan Navy on Thursday launched its indigenously designed Gun Boat, PNS Sahiwal, at a ceremony held at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KS&EW).
Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, was the chief guest at the event. The vessel was designed by the Navy’s Platform Design Wing and built at KS&EW under the Navy’s policy of indigenization and self-reliance.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice Admiral Bilgrami hailed the launch as a major milestone in Pakistan’s shipbuilding capabilities. He praised the collaboration between the design wing and shipyard, and thanked the Ministry of Defense Production (MoDP) for its support.
The PNS Sahiwal is equipped with long-range semi-automatic guns, enabling it to conduct a wide range of maritime security operations. The gun boat is designed for flexibility, operating efficiently in both coastal and open waters.
Vice Admiral Bilgrami also revealed that the Navy is considering mass production of similar vessels as part of its ongoing modernization and local industry development plans.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Pakistan Navy, MoDP, KS&EW, and the shipbuilding industry.
