A suspect has been arrested in connection with Balochistan ‘honor’ killing case of a couple who married by choice, a provincial official confirmed on Sunday after a disturbing video went viral.

The video, widely circulated on social media, shows armed men executing a young couple in a remote hilly area.

The brutal act, which has reportedly happened around the Eid al Adha holiday, has sparked nationwide outrage and raised concerns over safety and justice for women in rural areas.

Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind told reporters in Karachi that the incident took place within the province and was not reported by either of the families involved.

“This area has been identified,” said Rind. “The state will file the case as the complainant.”

According to local reports, the couple was executed on the orders of a tribal jirga, a traditional council of elders. Rind said that investigators had identified suspects from the video and raids were underway to arrest more people.

Honor killings remain a serious issue in Pakistan, particularly in tribal and rural regions where cultural traditions often override legal protections. Men and women who marry without family consent are frequently targeted, often with impunity.

In response, the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) issued a strong statement, condemning such killings as “un-Islamic, anti-Sharia, and terrorism.”

“We demand the arrest of all culprits shown in the video,” the PUC said. “They should be prosecuted under terrorism laws and tried at the same location to set an example.”

The case continues to spark debate on social media, where users and activists are calling for stronger action against tribal violence and legal reforms to protect women’s rights.

The incident has shocked the country and prompted action from officials and civil society.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Sarfaraz Bugti took notice of the viral video and ordered the immediate arrest of the culprits.

Government spokesperson Shahid Rind said authorities are working to identify the exact location and bring the criminals to justice.

“This brutality is beyond tolerance. The accused will be arrested soon,” Rind stated in a media briefing.
