Pakistan Railways is set to unveil a new state of the art business train on July 19, featuring 28 fully digitized coaches, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a dining car built to international standards. The premium service, running between Lahore and Karachi, aims to provide passengers with a significantly upgraded travel experience.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate the service at a ceremony in Lahore, marking a key milestone in the government’s broader rail reform agenda. The launch is part of Pakistan Railway’s ongoing modernization drive, which also includes digital ticketing, station upgrades, and improved onboard amenities.
In a statement, the Railways Ministry reported earning over Rs3.95 billion in the past three years from brake and luggage van operations. A substantial portion of this revenue came through outsourcing services via open tenders—indicating a strategic shift toward public-private partnerships.

Bullet Train Project in Planning
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the Lahore–Rawalpindi Bullet Train Project, a high-speed rail initiative expected to cut travel time between the two cities from 4–5 hours to just 2.5 hours. While still in the planning stages, the project is being hailed as a game-changer for Pakistan’s ageing railway infrastructure.
The bullet train is seen as a potential catalyst for economic growth and improved regional connectivity, aligning with the government’s long-term vision to modernize transport and logistics across the country.
