Sindh approves fee waiver for specific intermediate students

Sindh waived fees for Inter students

The Sindh government has waived fees for specific Intermediate students registered with the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK).

The intermediate students registered with the Karachi board during the academic years from 2017-18 to 2023-24, offering long-awaited financial relief to thousands of students.

The decision was finalized during a recent meeting of the Sindh Cabinet’s Sub-Committee on Finance, led by senior provincial ministers Nasir Hussain Shah and Zia Lanjar.

The committee approved a supplementary release of Rs1.27 billion to settle the board’s outstanding dues.

According to the officials, while the provincial government had previously disbursed Rs2.89 billion, the total student fee amount over the seven-year span had reached Rs4.16 billion, leaving a significant gap.

The fresh allocation now covers that difference, ensuring students and families will not face retrospective charges.

As per figures shared in the meeting, 692,000 students were registered with the board between 2017 and 2024.

In total, 1.213 million students appeared in board examinations during this period. The waiver aims to support students who often struggle with educational expenses amid ongoing economic uncertainty.

Earlier to this, the verification process for matriculation and intermediate certificates in Sindh is now fully digital, following a notification issued by the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC).

The IBCC has ended the acceptance of sealed envelopes for verification.

From now on, all verification requests will be processed through a centralized online verification system to ensure faster and more secure procedures.

Currently, the Karachi Matric Board, Sukkur Education Board, and Ziauddin Board are linked to the new platform, meanwhile, other boards have been ordered to digitise academic records promptly and join the system.

The IBCC says this move will enhance transparency, reduce delays, and limit the risk of forged academic documents in the province. The digital platform aims to improve efficiency for students and institutions alike.

Education officials have hailed the shift as a much-needed reform, urging all boards to complete integration without delay.
