The Sindh Police has officially selected the site for Karachi’s first government driving training school, marking a major step toward safer roads and professional driver education in the province.

In a high-level meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, the initiative was reviewed and finalized.

The meeting was attended by senior officials including DIGs of Driving License and Training (DLT), Traffic and Transport (T&T), SPPU, Establishment, Headquarters, Finance, IT, and Training.

According to the Sindh Police Public Relations Office, the pilot project will be launched in Karachi in its first phase. A dedicated building has been selected within the Police Training College in Saeedabad, which will serve as the hub for training aspiring drivers.

The school will begin functioning once basic repairs and essential equipment are arranged. The facility will house six rooms, which will include classrooms and administrative offices.

Training programs will be offered for obtaining licenses for motorcycles, Light Transport Vehicles (LTV), and Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTV).

IG Sindh noted that this initiative aims to address the rising rate of traffic accidents in Karachi and to ensure standardized, professional driver training.

“We want to make driver education accessible, practical, and standardized,” said IG Ghulam Nabi Memon, emphasizing collaboration with other institutions to enhance training quality and ensure compliance with road safety regulations.

The Sindh Police driving training school will also facilitate students in the license acquisition process, providing them with guidance and easing procedural hurdles. Once operational, the school aims to serve as a model for future driver training centers across Sindh.

The announcement has been met with positive reactions, especially as Karachi continues to battle chaotic traffic and untrained drivers. Authorities hope that this government-led initiative will mark the beginning of a long-term road safety strategy.
