Sindh all set to hold senate by-elections tomorrow

Senate by-election Sindh

The by-election for a vacant general seat of the Senate from Sindh will be held on May 06 (tomorrow), with polling scheduled from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm without any break, according to Election Commissioner Sindh Ijaz Anwar Chohan.

The polling station has been set up at the Sindh Assembly, where members will cast their votes to elect a new senator.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Senator Taj Haider, a senior member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

According to a Spokesman for the Provincial Election Commission of Sindh, two candidates withdrew their nomination papers on Monday.

Meanwhile, those who withdrew included Asif Khan of the PPP and Mujahid Rasool of the MQM-Pakistan.

The by-election will see Waqar Mehdi of the PPP facing off against Nighat Mirza of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P).

Both parties are gearing up for a closely watched contest that could reflect their current influence within the provincial assembly.

Ijaz Anwar Chohan, who also serves as the Returning Officer, visited the Sindh Assembly today to review the arrangements.

He expressed satisfaction with the preparations, stating that the Election Commission has taken all necessary measures to ensure transparent and peaceful polling.

Chohan stressed that polling staff have been briefed, and the commission is fully prepared to conduct the by-election without any disruptions. Special attention has been given to maintaining order and upholding electoral standards.

The by-election holds symbolic significance and will be closely monitored by political analysts for insights into the current political dynamics of Sindh.
