Karachi hospitals set up heatstroke wards amid heatwave

Karachi heatwave

As Karachi suffers from an extreme heatwave, hospitals have created special heatstroke wards to treat patients affected by heat-related illnesses, especially during peak hours.

Major hospitals in Karachi like Jinnah, Civil, and Skin Hospital are seeing a large number of heatstroke and skin infection cases daily.

Emergency In-charge Dr Irfan confirmed that Jinnah Hospital has set up a 22-bed heatstroke ward with staff, medicines, and equipment ready for immediate patient care.

“Patients receive instant monitoring and stabilization upon arrival at the heatstroke ward. We strongly urge the public to take safety steps against heatstroke,” said Dr Irfan during a briefing.

At Skin Hospital Karachi, Dr Abdullah said more than 5,000 people visit daily with rashes, itching, allergies, and other heat-related skin conditions.

He warned citizens not to share towels, clothes, or other personal items to avoid spreading infections. Staff are managing the situation with full resources.

Associate Professor Dr Behram shared that most adult patients have fungal infections while bacterial ones are common in children.

At Jinnah Hospital, dermatologist Dr Rabia Ghafoor blamed sweating, heat, and humidity for the outbreak, stressing the importance of dry, clean skin care.

Civil Hospital’s Dr Mahesh said over 600 skin cases are seen daily. She encouraged people to avoid direct sunlight and report symptoms early.
